BSL Level 1 – Course Fees, Payment, Cancellation & Refund Policy

This policy explains the fees, payment arrangements, cancellations, refunds, attendance requirements and complaints procedure for BSL Levels 1–6 provided by BSL Search. The fees shown below apply to your selected course, BSL Level 1.

1. Course Fee

The total course fee is £500.00 per student.

The course fee contributes towards the costs of delivering the course, including:

  • Qualified BSL teacher/tutor fees
  • Signature registration and/or qualification fees, where applicable
  • One examination/assessment attempt, where included in the course
  • Room and venue hire
  • Teaching and learning resources
  • Course administration and support

Any examination re-sit, replacement assessment or additional examination fee is not included in the £500.00 course fee unless specifically stated otherwise.

Students will be informed of any additional fee before an additional assessment or examination is booked.

2. Payment Options

Students can pay the course fee in one of two ways:

One-off payment: The full £500.00 course fee can be paid when enrolling.

Monthly payment plan: Students who would prefer to spread the cost can contact BSL Search to discuss and arrange a monthly payment plan.

The monthly payment arrangement must be agreed with BSL Search. Students remain responsible for paying the full amount due under their agreed payment arrangement.

3. Course Confirmation and Minimum Student Numbers

Courses require a sufficient number of enrolled students to operate successfully.

BSL Search reserves the right to postpone, reschedule or cancel a course if there are not enough students enrolled, a teacher becomes unavailable, a venue becomes unavailable, or another significant circumstance prevents us from delivering the course as planned.

If BSL Search cancels the course, students will be offered an appropriate alternative where possible or a refund of course fees paid for the cancelled course.

If the course is postponed or materially changed, we will contact affected students and explain the available options.

4. Student Cancellation and Refunds

Once a student has enrolled and any applicable statutory cancellation period has passed, course fees are generally non-refundable if the student chooses to withdraw from the course.

This is because BSL Search may already have committed costs based on the student's enrolment, including teacher fees, venue hire, administration, qualification registration and examination fees.

Nothing in this policy affects any cancellation or refund rights that a student may have under applicable UK consumer law.

Where exceptional circumstances arise, students should contact BSL Search as soon as possible. Any discretionary refund or alternative arrangement will be considered individually and is not guaranteed.

5. Attendance and Missed Classes

Students are responsible for attending their scheduled classes.

If a student misses a class, arrives late, leaves early or cannot attend for personal reasons, BSL Search will not normally provide a refund or reduction in the course fee for the missed teaching time.

Where possible, BSL Search may provide information about learning resources or work covered during the missed session. We cannot guarantee an individual replacement class.

Regular attendance is strongly recommended, particularly where the course leads towards an assessment or qualification.

6. Examinations and Assessments

Where stated as part of the course package, the course fee includes one examination/assessment attempt.

If a student does not attend their scheduled examination, needs to re-sit an assessment or requires another examination attempt, an additional fee may apply.

Any additional Signature, examination or assessment charges will be explained before another examination is booked.

Completion of the course does not automatically guarantee that a student will pass an assessment or achieve the qualification.

7. Learning Resources

Students may receive access to BSL Search learning materials and online resources to support their studies.

Access to particular online resources may be limited to the duration of the course or another period specified when access is provided.

Course resources are intended for the enrolled student's personal learning. Materials protected by copyright must not be copied, recorded, redistributed, published or shared without permission.

8. Changes to Classes

Occasionally, BSL Search may need to change a teacher, classroom, venue, lesson date or lesson time.

We will provide students with as much notice as reasonably possible and make reasonable efforts to minimise disruption.

If BSL Search makes a significant change that substantially affects the course, affected students should contact us to discuss the available options.

9. Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to:

  • Attend classes regularly and on time
  • Participate appropriately in lessons
  • Complete recommended practice and coursework
  • Treat teachers, staff and other students respectfully
  • Follow reasonable venue and course rules
  • Inform BSL Search as soon as possible if they cannot attend
  • Follow examination and assessment requirements

10. Complaints and Concerns

BSL Search aims to provide a professional, accessible and positive learning environment. We take complaints and concerns seriously.

Students may raise a complaint or concern about matters including:

  • The quality of teaching
  • Teacher or staff conduct
  • Course organisation or communication
  • Accessibility or reasonable adjustments
  • The learning environment or venue
  • Bullying, harassment or inappropriate behaviour
  • Payments or administration
  • Examinations or assessments
  • Learning resources
  • Another aspect of the service provided by BSL Search

Informal Resolution

Where appropriate, we encourage students to raise a concern with BSL Search as soon as possible so that we have an opportunity to resolve the matter quickly.

Students are not required to complain directly to their teacher if they do not feel comfortable doing so.

Formal Complaint

If the issue cannot be resolved informally, or the student considers the matter serious, they may submit a formal complaint to BSL Search.

The complaint should include, where possible:

  • The student's name
  • Course name
  • A clear explanation of the complaint
  • Relevant dates
  • Details of anyone involved
  • Any relevant evidence or supporting information
  • What outcome the student would like BSL Search to consider

BSL Search will acknowledge the complaint and investigate it fairly. We will aim to provide a response within a reasonable timeframe and keep the student informed if additional time is required.

Complaints will be handled as confidentially as reasonably possible. Information may need to be shared with relevant staff, teachers, venues, awarding organisations or other parties where necessary to investigate or resolve the complaint.

A student will not be treated unfairly simply because they have raised a genuine complaint.

Complaints About Assessments or Qualifications

Where a complaint relates specifically to an examination, assessment decision or qualification provided through an external awarding organisation such as Signature, separate assessment, appeals or awarding-body procedures may apply.

BSL Search will explain the appropriate process where applicable.

Complaints and Refunds

Making a complaint does not automatically entitle a student to a refund.

However, if an investigation finds that BSL Search has failed to provide an important part of the agreed course or service, we will consider an appropriate remedy. Depending on the circumstances, this could include correcting the problem, providing replacement teaching, offering an alternative arrangement, or providing a full or partial refund where appropriate.

Nothing in this complaints procedure affects a student's statutory rights.

11. Contacting BSL Search

Students should contact BSL Search regarding:

  • Monthly payment arrangements
  • Attendance issues
  • Course concerns
  • Examination questions
  • Accessibility requirements
  • Exceptional circumstances
  • Complaints

Students should contact BSL Search as early as possible so that we have an opportunity to help resolve the matter.

By enrolling on the course and making payment, the student confirms that they have read and accepted these course terms, subject to their rights under applicable UK law.
